The Local Government Digital Service Standard suggests that code and data should be open and reusable under appropriate licenses. Making code open source means that anyone with the right skills can use and modify it. The benefits are considerable, not least in avoiding duplication and therefore saving taxpayers money, but also collaboratively improving it or adapting it.
To help councils achieve this LocalGov Digital are teaming up with GitHub, the largest host of open source code in the world.
Together LocalGov Digital and Github will be offering free webinars on how to get the most from the platform, but before we do we’d like to know your needs. If you’re interested in joining in, please take a few minutes to answer the questions in this survey.
