Draft Digital Standard for Local Government released

Since April 2014 the Digital by Default Service Standard has ensured central government digital teams build high quality services. Created by the Government Digital Service (GDS), a transactional service must meet each criteria to pass an assessment. If a service doesn’t pass it won’t appear on GOV.UK.

The Standard has made its mark not only on UK Government but worldwide, with the creation of the Digital Service Standard in Australia and the U.S. Digital Service Playbook to name but two. The Standard has yet however to be used in UK Local Government.

On 5th February 2016 LocalGov Digital a ran an event in London at GDS. Officers from over 30 councils attended to hear talks by members of GDS teams involved with Digital by Default Assessments, and to take part in workshop sessions to discuss how the Standard might be adapted for Local government.

Since then work has taken place on a draft Local Government Digital Service Standard was released Monday 29th February for consultation which closed on 19th March. The Standard is due to be published in the first week of April 2016 and you can find out more about what’s happening here.
