A Digital by Default Standard for Local Government?

Since April 2014 the Digital by Default Service Standard has ensured central government digital teams build high quality services. Created by the Government Digital Service (GDS), a transactional service must meet each criteria to pass an assessment. If a service doesn’t pass it won’t appear on GOV.UK.

The Standard has made its mark not only on UK Government but worldwide, with the creation of the Digital Service Standard in Australia and the U.S. Digital Service Playbook to name but two. The Standard has yet however to be used in UK Local Government.

LocalGov Digital hope to change this and ran a first workshop on 5th February 2016 in London with GDS, not to see if the Standard would work for councils, but how. We asked for expressions of interest in attending between 21 November to 11 December and invited 40 people working for councils, based on their response.

This is was real opportunity for local government to think, do and share with digital practitioners in central government and work based on the output from the day is now progressing.
